Midnight Sun

Midnight Sun

Have you ever heard about midnight sun?

No, I’m not gonna discuss about Stephanie Meyer’s upcoming book, Midnight Sun. I’m gonna talk about the real midnight sun.

According to Wikipedia:

The midnight sun is a natural phenomenon occurring in summer months at latitudes north and nearby to the south of the Arctic Circle, and south and nearby to the north of the Arctic Circle where the sun remains visible at the local midnight. Given fair weather, the sun is visible for a continuous 24 hours, mostly north of the Arctic Circle and south of the Antarctic Circle. The number of days per year with potential midnight sun increases the farther poleward one goes.

We can see the midnight sun from the areas within Arctic or Antarctic Circle. For example, Norway, Greenland, Alaska, and Iceland.

How does it feel to find the fact that there’s no sunset for several days? How does it feel to find the sun every time you look at the sky? How does it feel to life without the darkness for several days? It must be something that I won’t forget for the rest of my life.

A woman from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Jakarta told me that I will be able to find the midnight sun if I visited Norway around June or July. Hmm, it must be amazing.

Unfortunately, I’m gonna visit Norway on February, which means winter time. It doesn’t mean that I’m not excited about this trip. I am definitely excited! I’m gonna touch my first snoooww! Yippie!

Well, as a person who has spent her whole life at a tropical country, it can be understood why I’m totally eager to feel my first snow.

I felt the desert last February, and on the next February I’m gonna touch and feel the snow.

Life can’t be more perfect for me. And I thank God for both perfect and imperfect moments in my life.

Anyway, it’s already 1 AM here.

Good night, everyone. Sleep well.

  1. The Midnight sun is really a natur’es wonder to me. I spent hours and hours contemplating it in the Northern most part of Norway till I became hungry. I found myself having dinner 30 minutes after midnight right there, on top of a rock; a strange feeling but exciting and feeling peaceful at the same time. Then I went to bed at 5 am as if it were 2pm in my country.
